Project overview

Nuori Yrittäjyys ry is an organisation that offers entrepreneurship training to Finnish schools and educational institutions, and supports the entrepreneurship, working life- and economic skills of Finnish children and youth through different programs and education. Nuori Yrittäjyys is part of the international Junior Achievement (JA) NGO.

With the brand reform, the old website of Nuori Yrittäjyys was not responding to the new needs of the organisation. The cornerstones of the new design were the organisation’s renewed brand image, improving the structure and communication of the overall website, and the need to merge the “Uskalla Yrittää”-event webpage as part of the new Nuori Yrittäjyys homepage. An entirely new website was required, one that was enticing, modern and respectable.

Exciting, respectable and most importantly inspiring.

The goal was to create a website that inspires both youth and teachers alike to take part in the action. The differing needs of both target groups are taken into consideration on the new website by guiding each user to the information that applies to them, from the very front page and navigation menu.

The user is guided through the website by recommendation banners that appear depending on their location within the website. Due to this need-based approach to user direction, we wanted to make contacting the organization as easy as possible, preferrably straight with the correct member of the team. The user is always able to find contact information according to their current topic on the bottom corner of each page.

Brand elements in the spotlight.

The overall atmosphere of the website was designed to be youthful and relaxed. We brought the colors and shapes of the brand into the spotlight to induce an individualized, approachable and playful feel. Nuori Yrittäjyys ry’s design patterns were utilized as a repeating theme throughout the site.

We created several options of the landing page, where it’s possible to show both the pattern and figures cut out from the background. The cut figures also make an appearance in the section for contact information for different employees, where they have been compiled with patterns of varying colors and shapes.

The small geometric elements are there to make visual direction more distinct, but also to help with the characterization of different contents. For example with educational programmes, the colors of the elements represent a particular level of education, which makes eyeing through the options that much more straightforward.

Contents for every need

The website has several different types of content that show up automatically on the reserved spots for each type. A well organized management of the website makes it possible to add to these types of content later on.

Merging two websites

One of the purposes of this website overhaul was to merge together the previously separately functioned “uskallayrittää.fi”-event webpage with the new Nuori Yrittäjyys website.

The webpage was merged into the new website but was kept as a section of its own, where all needed information – such as articles, information pertaining to local events, links to register and companies successful in competitions – is showcased. The look of the event section follows the look of the main website, which makes the Uskalla Yrittää-competition firmly integrate with the Nuori Yrittäjyys-brand.

Technical implementation

Special attention was paid to the loading speed of the website as well as search engine friendliness. Different contents are managed based on their topics and are introduced to users through varying filters. The content elements found on the pages are reusable and are able to be organized freely in the WordPress block editor.

All this while naturally keeping in mind the loading speed, search engine optimization, accessibility and effortless further development requirements.

Overall, the website is a simple to operate, user-friendly WCAG 2.1 AA-level criteria fulfilling package that is pleasant to use.
